What would you do if millions in benefits was taken from your kids?

We asked ourselves the same question when we learned that counties in Minnesota have been taking funds meant for Fosters. We make a promise to children when they are separated from their families—it’s a promise to care and provide what’s best for them. Taking money from Fosters is not serving the best interest of the child. It's not right, and we’re standing up with Fosters to end the practice.

Survivor benefits for Fosters was recently covered by the Star Tribune, featuring our Foster leaders across the state, and on WCCO with an interview with Hoang. Click the images below to learn more:

Our 2023 Survivor Benefits legislation and organizing with Fosters impacted by this issue will take about $200,000 in community support in order to put $11 million back into the hands of Fosters. That means we need our Village to learn more, share with others, and take action by giving and signing up for our e-news alerts to follow this and other issues impacting Fosters in Minnesota.

We believe that, as Minnesotans, Minnesota Fosters are our kids. Federal Social Security benefits provide crucial funds when young Fosters need them most. We hope you’ll join us to change the harsh reality for Fosters in Minnesota.

For impacted Fosters across the state—Anthony, Ada, Monica, Nathan, and many more—don’t let this issue stay a secret. Share the Star Tribune article, the WCCO interview, this email and our social media posts with your network, and let them know what you’d do if you found out money was being taken from your kids.

In solidarity,

Ariana, Elena, Hannah, and Hoang
